This one is a bit of unusual coffee for us as it's not your typical lot that we would buy from say a single producer or a single farm. This coffee is actually a blend!

In Kenya coffee buying works slightly different with a general auction house that coffees pass through and big buying companies go to auction each day, cup the day lots and then buy in large quantities usually from regions or co-operatives, hence why you see Kirinyaga, or Nyeri coffees on bags, these are either regions or particular washing stations that co-operatives deliver to where all the coffee is bundled together by grade and sold to auction that way.

Lots like these have to reach a certain size in order to be submitted to auction, and for this coffee they've actually blended all the PB lots that weren't big enough for auction into one lot to be sold.

PB stands for Peaberries, which is where the coffee cherry which usually produces 2 beans per cherry, only produces one. Typically 5% of all coffee harvested turns out to be Peaberries, and in some countries they are actually considered a defect.

We’re always excited to find unusual coffees and this one is a fantastic example of quality coming from unexpected places!

We roast this coffee light to showcase its acidity and flavour notes of: Stewed Rhubarb, Blackcurrant, Hibiscus + Passionfruit.
