From neighbourhood space to Oriental dining room...
Earlier this month we were delighted to welcome event and catering company, Dinner Ladies, to our rustic roastery for a special three night supper club, celebrating Chinese New Year. We loved seeing our East London space transformed to host friends, couples and colleagues who went on an East Asian gastronomic adventure. It was a delight seeing the hospitality and events world coming back to life, so we caught up with Natalie from the Creative Team to find out a bit more...
Can you tell us a bit about how the dinner ladies came about?
Founded in 2015, Dinner Ladies was created soon after co-owners Lily Cai and Emily Plunket returned from their post-uni travels across China. Having lived there together and sharing a passion for food and bold Asian flavours, they were inspired to start up their own food events & catering business. Dinner Ladies is all about celebrating quality British produce and seasonality, with Asian flavours and spices, fun and personality thrown into the mix.
What is your favourite aspect of the supper club event?
Our supper clubs are a great way for us to engage with old and new faces. We love to create a fun, casual environment for singles, couples, families and groups of friends to meet others and share a vibrant evening of exciting food, cocktails and wine, often accompanied by live music. It's our chance to get really creative and play around with theme, decor and menu - we put this all together as a team from scratch each time.
"Saint Espresso Hackney was a perfect space for our intimate supper clubs, with a simple, clean aesthetic that we loved dressing up for Chinese New Year. And our customers absolutely loved it! Everyone commented on how unique and striking the space was."
Why did you choose our Hackney roastery for your event?
Having moved up to our Camden site after previously being based in Putney, we were keen to explore North and East London venues for our upcoming supper clubs. Saint Espresso Hackney was a perfect space for our intimate supper clubs, with a simple, clean aesthetic that we loved dressing up for Chinese New Year. And our customers absolutely loved it! Everyone commented on how unique and striking the space was.
What's your favourite go-to coffee?
